MUSALAC is the Banana Research and Development Network for Latin America and the Caribbean. It was established in 1987 as the Latin America and the Caribbean Network (LACNET) and renamed in 2000. The network operates under the auspices of the Foro Regional de Investigación y Desarrollo Tecnológico Agropecuario para America Latina y el Caribe (FORAGRO) and is managed by a Steering committee which meets every two years. The network is coordinated by Alliance Bioversity-CIAT.
The general objective of MUSALAC is to increase productivity and competitiveness of the banana agroalimentary chain by developing scientific and technological activities; strengthening national research and development systems; and prioritizing and coordinating actions in Latin America and the Caribbean.
