AAB genome group

The AAB genome group comprises all the cultivars that have two sets of chromosomes donated by Musa acuminata and one by Musa balbisiana. Genome groups are part of the nomenclature system developped by Kenneth Shepherd and Norman Simmonds.

Some of the cultivars, like Plantains, are starchy types that are usually cooked, whereas others, like Silk, are sweet dessert types that are eaten raw.
